Environmental Consultancy
Science-driven remediation and nature-based solutions for contaminated landscapes in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
About
Selvanu is a founder-led environmental consultancy specialising in water remediation and nature-based solutions, with a focus on emerging economies across Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Founded by Eva van Stekelenburg, a sustainable development practitioner with an MSc (Distinction) from the University of Sussex and direct field experience in environmental policy across Colombia and Indonesia. At the Gobernación de Antioquia, Eva developed a project proposal applying circular economy principles to gold ore mine tailings in the Bajo Cauca region — one of the most complex environmental remediation challenges in Latin America. Her academic work includes policy analysis of Indonesia's Omnibus Law on Job Creation, with a focus on environmental regulatory rollback, and policy memo work for the Dutch Government on the nitrogen crisis.
We operate where the gap between research and implementation is widest. Our work draws on environmental science, sustainable development policy, and on-the-ground project design to translate complex problems into actionable, context-specific solutions.
Selvanu is at an early stage. We are actively building our project portfolio and seeking collaborations with organisations working on water systems, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable land use in high-need regions.
Services
Assessment and strategic planning for contaminated water systems, including mine-affected watersheds, industrial discharge zones, and degraded aquifers.
Engineered ecological systems — constructed wetlands, phytoremediation arrays, bioretention infrastructure — designed for site-specific conditions and long-term viability.
Technical research and policy advisory for governments and institutions navigating remediation standards, compliance frameworks, and environmental governance.
Early-stage field projects developed in partnership with local organisations, research institutions, and communities — from concept through to monitored implementation.
Approach
We treat watersheds and ecosystems as interconnected systems, not isolated problems. Every intervention accounts for upstream causes and downstream effects.
We work with in-country research institutions, community organisations, and local government — because lasting change requires local ownership.
Our solutions are grounded in peer-reviewed science but designed for real-world constraints: budget, geography, institutional capacity.
We design for durability. Nature-based solutions that self-sustain. Policies that outlast project cycles. Capacity that remains.
Geographic Focus
Amazon basin, Andean watersheds, and mining-impacted regions across Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador. Complex hydrology, rich biodiversity, urgent remediation needs.
River systems and coastal zones across the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam — where rapid industrialisation meets fragile aquatic ecosystems.
